THE FOURTH ANNUAL GREATER IPAC SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM Date: 6 and 7 March 2003 Location: Winnett Lounge, Caltech *************************************************************** *************************************************************** "Every cloud has a silver lining," as they say. The little cloud that passed over the Cape and caused the "accident" delaying the GPS satellite launch has opened a window of opportunity for the science community at IPAC. That's right, mark your calendars now for the fourth annual Greater IPAC Science Symposium to be held on Thursday and Friday, March 6 and 7, 2003. And by the way, there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Roc and Bill had anything to do with arranging that accident.... The large cash withdrawals from our bank accounts a few days prior were pure coincidences. The Science Symposium is a forum for all staff of IPAC, the SIRTF Science Center (SSC) and the Michelson Science Center (MSC) to present, discuss and learn about the diverse research that is being carried at the "Greater IPAC." The atmosphere is intended to be informal, and the location, the Winnett Lounge (upstairs from the Caltech Bookstore), is designed to get us away from our offices and project work. All projects are being asked to cancel project meetings for the two days of the Symposium, and to give consideration of the meeting when assigning deadlines. The format of the Symposium will be 15 minute contributed talks from Greater IPAC science staff. In addition, each day there will be one or two Invited Talks given by science staff members. The final presentation made on Friday will be a "State of IPAC" address presented by George Helou, the Executive Director. All Greater IPAC staff members are invited to attend. Start shopping for your Hawaiian shirts now! Following the talks on Friday, March 7, will be the now famous GISS reception with food and refreshments at Chandler Hall. A Call for Titles will be made on February 17, and titles will be due by approximately February 26, 2003.
